Time to buy boat tickets Fluelen to Lucerne

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip on the Gotthard PE train to Lucerne and is concerned about making a quick connection to a boat in Fluelen, with only 11 minutes between arrival and departure. They are also wondering if they should buy their boat tickets in Lugano to save time.

Key takeaways:
  • The dock is very close to the train platform, so 11 minutes is enough to make the connection.
  • Buying the boat tickets in Lugano is a good idea to save time, but tickets can also be purchased on board at the same price.
  • If the traveler prefers a paddle steamer experience, they should check the schedule, as these boats operate on specific days.

Hi, on taking the Gotthard PE for Lucerne, I notice from the timetable that it arrives Fluelen at 11.49am and the boat leaves at 12:00. Is 11 min. enough time to get to the boat from the station?

As we need to buy tickets ( 50% off Eurail GP ) would it be better buying in Lugano and save time buying at the lake jetty?

    Thanks.

You will have no problem making the connection – the dock is less than 100 meters from the platform where the train stops. I would buy a ticket for the boat before you leave Lugano, yes.

    Hi Arctic Wolf,

I personally would not miss the boat ride, but this is up to you of course!

Time-wise you’ll have no problem, as you can also buy the discounted tickets right on bord of the boat, at the same price.

    So you’ll be fine.

    Enjoy.

    Best,
    Steph

    Thanks Steph.

We thought we would get on a paddle steamer, but looking at the timetable of your link we might end up with a motorised boat. Upon looking at some pictures of said boats, that would be quite awesome as well.

    Happy days ahead.

You don’t say what date this is for, so I can’t tell you about the steamer.

But, I can assure you that the paddle steamers are much more interesting than the modern diesel boats…(see my pic)

The 12.00 from Fluelen is paddle steamer Sundays only 19 April until 24 May, daily after 25 May

However, if you are ending your day in Luzern you do not have to rush on to the boat at Fluelen. There is a service at 14.00 from Fluelen which is paddle steamer daily from 19 April
