Bringing small dog to Switzerland: SWISS flight & customs in Zurich
A traveler is planning a trip to Switzerland this July, flying from the US to Zurich with their mini poodle. They seek advice on customs procedures, necessary documentation for their dog, and how dog-friendly Interlaken and Switzerland are, as well as any tips on flying with Swiss Air.
- Ensure your dog has an EU passport and proof of rabies vaccine for travel.
- Check the official Swiss government portal for customs information regarding pets.
- Review Swiss Airlines' regulations for flying with small dogs in the cabin.
- Switzerland is generally very dog-friendly, especially in cities and on public transport.

Hi! We are planning a trip this July. We are US citizens who live in Spain. We plan to fly from the US to Zurich with our mini poodle with us in the cabin. I read that we need to go through customs “something to declare” with her when we land. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does it take long? Other than her EU passport and proof of rabies vaccine, do I need anything? How dog friendly is Interlaken and the country in general? And any comments on flying Swiss Air with a small dog in cabin?
