Hello, I already have tickets for the bernina express from tirano. I just want to buy the bus ticket from lugano. On the official website if I put from lugano station to tirano station it only gives me a 104CHF ticket. How do I buy just the train ticket?
Thanks

Hello Newtonc,
Welcome to MySwissAlps!
I would like to clarify your question to make sure I understood correctly. You want to know how to buy the bus ticket from Lugano to Tirano?
Thank you,
Suzanne

Your question is a bit difficult to follow as you refer to train tickets when perhaps you mean seat reservations for the bus.
When are you travelling. Don’t expect to get a seat on the bus at the last minute. There are far fewer seats on the bus than on the train.
Prices for the seat reservation supplement vary from CHF10 to CHF16 depending on season.
A bus ticket plus seat reservation does in fact cost CHF104 in certain seasons. At some times of year the bus only runs Thursday to Sunday, not every day.
If you have a Swiss Travel Pass then you only pay the seat reservation. You get an option to nominate what sort of pass you have after you select seats. This will reduce the price to just the reservation fee.
You can also buy seat reservations at http://www.myswissalps.com/be rninaexpress/packages.
If you are unable to secure a seat on the bus you may need to travel via Milan or Monza to Tirano.

The problem is that on the website I don’t seem to find how to buy only the bus tickets.
rockoysterParticipant8889 posts18 November 2019 at 1:53:11 #925234OK. Are you looking here – shop.rhb.ch/en/bernina -express
If so just enter Lugano Stazione to Tirano and your date of travel. See attached. The bus runs only Thursday to Sunday at that time of year.
The first seats I see available are 20 February which is actually when the bus starts running in 2020. You can’t buy tickets until 2 months out. But you can pay CHF10 for a seat reservation. Once you have a seat reservation you can buy the ticket anytime prior to boarding. You can buy from a station or at SBB on-line.
See timetable at http://www.rhb.ch/fileadmin/u ser_upload/redaktion/H ome_Marketing/Panorama zuege/Bernina_Express/ Fahrplaene/BEX_Fahrpla n_de_en_it_fr_WEB.pdf and especially Note #2 on the bus.
What date are you booked on the train?
If before 20 February looks like you may be going via Milan or Monza (in which case yo might find http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/italy useful). There is also an option to catch a local Italian bus to Menaggio then get a ferry across to Varenna and train to Tirano. I’m just not sure how regular those buses and ferries operate in winter.

rockoysterParticipant8889 posts18 November 2019 at 9:56:31 #925236You tell me what date you are travelling and I’ll tell you the fare. Deal?
Removed userParticipant72625 posts18 November 2019 at 9:58:18 #925237Well, I’ll arrange to go on the 20th. Thanks
rockoysterParticipant8889 posts18 November 2019 at 10:02:39 #925238So you have a reservation from Tirano to Chur on the Bernina Express on 20 Feb? Really? That’s a coincidence.
Removed userParticipant72625 posts18 November 2019 at 11:03:04 #925239Yes, I was lucky to get it on the first day of the bus service.
rockoysterParticipant8889 posts18 November 2019 at 19:38:35 #925240Well in that case, using the attached pricelist, I calculate the price of the bus is CHF35. That’s CHF25 for the ticket and CHF10 for the seat reservation.
Attachments:rockoysterParticipant8889 posts19 November 2019 at 3:38:39 #925241I’m intrigued to know how you got a ticket (as opposed to a seat reservation) for the Bernina Express train so far in advance.
