Buying a ticket to Colmar through the SBB app

Short summary – read this first

Daniel is planning a day trip from Lucerne to Colmar in late September and wants to know if he can buy all his tickets through the SBB app. He's unsure if there are any disadvantages to this method since he found out that tickets for trips outside of Switzerland might not be available on the app.

Key takeaways:
  • It's not possible to buy tickets for trips outside of Switzerland with the SBB app at this time.
  • You can purchase Swiss legs of the trip using the SBB app, but for international portions like Basel-Colmar, consider using the SNCF app instead.
  • The SBB website might provide better options compared to the mobile app for some routes.

    Hello,

I will be taking a day trip from Lucerne to Colmar in late September. I see I can buy tickets on the SBB app for this trip. I also looked at the SNCF Connect (France Train) app for the France portion of the trip (Basel-Colmar). I would like to purchase my tickets using only the SBB app but wasn’t sure if there are any disadvantages with this method. My other option is using the SBB app for Lucerne to Basel portion and then using the SCNF app for Basel-Colmar portion.

    Thank you,

    Daniel

    Hi Daniel!

As far as we know, it’s not possible to buy tickets for trips outside of Switzerland with the SBB app at this time. I just did a dummy search for Lucerne-Colmar to be sure, and when I click “Select ticket” the message appears that it’s currently not possible to buy tickets for European trips. But maybe you’re seeing something else?

Anyway, if it doesn’t work, you can use any of the options mentioned at http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france/price. Tickets for the Swiss legs can be bought in the SBB app or via any of the resellers listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland/price.

    Hi,

I see now when I use the SBB mobile app tickets are not possible. I was using SBB.ch and was getting a price ( see attachment). Not sure if I should be restricting my searches to the mobile app only. I like to use SBB as it provides a map of the train route. I am unable to find this functionality in the mobile app.
