Hi Oldie
The Swiss transport system is an integrated one so the same timetable you use for the trains can be used to view the times of mountain transport: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable
The trick is to know what the stops are called, in this case you should search Furi etc.
However as these are cable cars for skiing, there’s one going up every minute! Therefore it is much more useful to look at operating times which you can do through the timetable link under “More on other websites” at http://www.myswissalps.com/kl einmatterhorn/gettingt here.
The link also has a downloadable pdf for a print version.
This will also tell you if the lifts/gondolas/cable cars are open or not, as they can close during strong winds.
Hope this helps!
Maria.

You will be able to obtain information from Zermatt railway station on arrival.

a link similar to this might be useful for Klein Matterhorn. Notice how they break down the tranfer time between stops and the estimates of how frequently they run. Perhaps something to think about for your forum

Hi Oldie,
That’s indeed a clear timetable. Note that this one is for a train. The ones for trains in Switzerland look similar, unless you use the timetable that Maria mentioned, which is the easiest way.
Cable cars with small cabins like the one to Klein Matterhorn are different. They operate all day long, cabin after cabin, from the start to the end time. So no fixed departure times.
Cable car timetables can be confusing sometimes, but it’s up to the cable car companies how they publish their schedules. We don’t operate cable cars at MySwissAlps and can only link to the schedules.

I don’t see a great deal of difference between the two. Like the Zugspitz, the railway (Gornergrat) has a well published timetable.
Cable cars are somewhat different to railways and Zermatt Bergbahnen clearly don’t feel the need to break down the timings as the cars run ‘frequently’ between the first and last times shown. It is like the London Underground – very few people care about the actual timetable, they just ‘wait for the next one’ – one only consults the ‘first and last times if planning an early start or a late night ‘clubbin’!
Also cable cars can run differently if there is, for example, wind above a certain speed. This might make the journey slower than advertised.

I appreciate your feed back you guys do a great job helping us. However, first timers like me get really frustrated. Note the link i last posted for Zugspitze. There are operating times for the train times from Garmisch to each stop along the way to Riffelberg. then there are CABLE CAR operating time AND the duration for each of the cable cars -to Alpspix,Kreuzeck AND frequency they operate. Yes, wind, weather and demand play into the schedule, but this allowed me to plan a decent trip on the day we visit. I can know how what can/can’t be included reasonably in morning will be before lunch and after lunch. Very useful estimates. CH on the other hand, total guess work – hours and hours of internet searches to find that the Funicular to Sunnegga is 10 min and that it leaves from Rothburn-Sunnegga station not Talstation or some other place that the e-bus stops. The final point, train schedules
I started planning this trip in February 2018. Made INTERNATIONAL airline reservations which would today cost DOUBLE in March 2018. Made EU reservations – air and hotel – in August 2018 – that today would cost 1.5 times the cost. Same with limo travel. Couldn’t find a schedul for Geneva to Zermatt for the timeframe of our trip. Need to trick the schedules to get approximates. WHY? The same trains will run on the same days 365 days a year. Makes no sense to an international travel trying to plan. We are good now and hope to have a beautiful fulling vacation in CH. Wouldn’t miss it even with all the frustrations of planning it. Thanks to the forum for all its help.

I don’t think that there are many people that would agree that planning travel in Switzerland is difficult…
To answer some of your points:
The Swiss do publish the length of time (and indeed physical length) cable cars take to complete the journey, see example:
http://www.fahrplanfelder.ch/ fileadmin/fap_pdf_fiel ds/2019/2285.pdf
look for the ‘F’ eg F 7 min means Fahrzeit (travel time) 7 minutes
The ‘Talstation’ (Tal = valley aka bottom; station = station) for Sunnegga is quite clearly visible on online maps and streetview, and the e bus stop is called Sunnegga Rothorn – quite clearly stated on e-bus timetables (the Green route). The stop is 30 seconds walk across the river from the Talstation
Swiss railway Timetables (justifiable known by most people as the most efficient in the World):
These have been much the same for decades and were made even more frequent by the ‘Bahn 2000’ Taktfahrplan. There are numerous ways to find out the rough timings of the railway journey from Geneva to Zermatt.
By the way I’ve just checked my August 1937 timetable and the Geneva to Zermatt journey took about the same time as it does today.
By the way I’m going the ‘other way’ this summer and planning the trip in the US and Canada has been much more time consuming than planning a trip to Switzerland!

thanks for the timetable. I meant no harm or insult. I did not know the table existed. having it would have saved hours of work.
Recently the forum had a thread – how to make the forum better – it is no longer active. This among some of my other suggestions would help first timers
The USA is a difficult travel place as well even for Americans. Keep in mind – trains here are few and far between for intercity/interstate travel – we tend to use Air travel more or rent cars/SUV or RV
If you are going to big cities vs the western mountains – two different worlds. Also tour support is usually not as good as Europe. Born in Brooklyn, grew up using the subway system, raised in NY state and I still get lost in NYC and on their subway system
Enjoy your trip to our country. I know I will in Switzerland and the other parts of the EU we will visit in our month of September trip
