Hi Heidelein, welcome to MySwissAlps!
The Swiss Travel Pass Flex will be valid between Chiasso and Zurich. You can download the validity map here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/validity.
All you need in addition is a ticket Como-Chiasso. You can arrange for it from any of the websites listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy/price. More information about tickets from/to Italy is here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy.
If you want to calculate if the Swiss Travel Pass Flex is your best option, this guide may be of help: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.
Does this get you started?

Thank you Arno!
I had hoped to purchase a direct train through Swiss Rail from Como to Zürich, and wonder whether, if we have a Swiss Travel Pass, it would automatically take our passes into account when we book. I don’t know if that’s possible or if we have to book train from Como to the border, and then form there to Zürich in order for it to work. Any advice on this would be fantastic. Thank you so much.

Hi Heidelein!
Reservations are not required for all trains on this connection. You can check this in the Swiss timetable: the icon ‘R’ means that reservation is optional, and the icon ‘R’ in a square means that reservation is obligatory. Please refer to https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable for further explanation.
If you want to order a seat reservation plus a ticket for Como-Chiasso at the same time, you can check if passholder fares are available as explained at https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy.
If you intend to book at the SBB website, you can fill out “GA” as reduction option. This pass for Swiss residents offers discounts similar to those of the Swiss Travel Pass Flex: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/details.
