How to find costs of Swiss trains and cable cars

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip that involves taking cable cars and trains in the Lauterbrunnen area and needs specific cost information for their Swiss Travel Pass. They are asking about the prices for various routes, including Lauterbrunnen to Grutshalp, Murren, and Gimmelwald to Stechelberg.

Key takeaways:
  • The Swiss Travel Pass covers the cost of tickets to the Schilthorn, but you may need to show it at ticket offices for cable car access.
  • For detailed information on additional costs, refer to the Swiss Travel Pass validity map and price lists from travel companies.
  • Consider comfort and flexibility when choosing passes, as price differences can be minimal.

    Hello!

I cannot seem to find answers to these questions on SBB.

    1. Cost of cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grutshalp with STP

    2. Cost of train to Murren with STP

    3. Cost of cable car from Gimmelwald to Stechelberg with STP

    Thanks!

    Hi

If you have the Swiss Travel Pass the price of the tickets to the Schilthorn is included in the pass.

You may have to show the pass at certain ticket offices so they can give you a ticket to get through the barrier to cable cars, but I think we only had to do that after we got off the bus at Stechelberg.

    Hope you enjoy the trip.

Is there a summary page of all the supplementary costs for popular cable cars, furniculars, trains, reservation fees with the STP? No need to look then up one by one.

I wish there’s an app that can help you plan all this. Should be automated.

    Hi Virgingorda!

The Swiss Travel Pass validity is explained at http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity. You’ll find a downloadable validity map there, plus a list of discount/coverage percentages for the major attractions. For discounted routes you’ll find prices either through the timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable, or through the price lists provided at each individual travel company’s website. We link to such price overviews under “More on other websites” from our attraction pages. The process is explained at http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass.

I fully understand your wish for an automated process :-). That would be hard to achieve though, as prices and discount percentages can change. Moreover, there’s more to picking the right pass than price only. If the price difference for different options is relatively small, comfort and flexibility can be decisive as well. In many cases, an “educated guess” based on one’s plan works fine too.
