Day trip from Interlaken with 3 mountain tops

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Jenner is planning a day trip from Interlaken, including a cog train ride to Schynige Platte, a cruise to Lake Brienz, and a steam train to Brienzer Rothorn. They are unsure if they need to return via the cog train and if they should prioritize one attraction over another, particularly considering time constraints.

Key takeaways:
  • You need to commit to a round trip on the cog train from Interlaken to Schynige Platte.
  • If time is limited, consider skipping Harder Kulm to enjoy the other two experiences more fully.
  • The best time to visit Harder Kulm is in the late afternoon or evening for sunset views.

    Hi,

    Need advise here.

I take the Cog train to Schynige Platte from Wilderswil, do I need to commit round trip?

Perphas you guys give me your expertise advise. Let me share that day itinerary with you:

    * Train from Interlaken OST to Wilderswil then Cog train Schynige Platte. Do i need to take round trip of Cog train back to Wilderawil then to Interlaken OST? Let me know if there is another way of transport.

    * Interlaken OST to Lake Brienz by cruise follow by Brienz Rothorn by Steam trip (this route i was told to take round trip because i want to go back to Intetlaken OST).

    * Interlaken OST to Harder Kulm by Funicular (last stop of my day). What is the BEST time to visit Harder Kulm? Sunset?

My planning make sense in this way? If my timing does not permit to cover all these, let me know which one should I forgo?

    Thanks.

    Hi Jenner!

Would you like to to all 3 trips in one day? That will be a long day of traveling and you’d have to start early, but it can be done. I’ll insert some links below, allowing you to find out how to reach each destination in detail. Apart from that, you can use the SBB timetable to plan each segment and find out how long each trip takes: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.

    Hi Jenner,

Personally I’d give up Harder Kulm, but I recommend to take a look at Annika’s links to see which one is of less interest to you personally.

    Have fun!

I completely agree with Arno, drop Harder Kulm. It is far less interesting than Schynige Platte or Brienzer Rothorn, for the reasons below:

Schynige platte is one of the oldest regularly operating railways in the whole world not just in Switzerland. The little electric locomotives that push the carriages up the mountain were built over 100 years ago.

Brienzer Rothorn is one of the few mountain railways remaining in the world using steam trains on a regular basis. The views from the top are extensive
