Day trip from Zermatt to Lake Como
A traveler plans to stay in Zermatt for 7 nights in late March and is considering a day trip to Lake Como. They are confused about the long rail travel times and are seeking recommendations for a boat tour and feedback on the train journey. They are thinking of taking a 5-hour ride to the lake and a shorter return trip to Zermatt.
- Avoid attempting a day trip to Lake Como from Zermatt due to long travel times and infrequent boats in early Spring.
- Consider visiting Lago Maggiore instead, with scenic train options available for a simpler trip.
- Check boat schedules from Stresa and Locarno for potential tours on Lago Maggiore.

We are going to be in Zermatt for 7 nights in late March and would like to take a day trip to Lake Como. I am finding rail travel times anywhere from 3 1/2 – 5 hours. We can ride the Glacier express for about 1 hour as part of the multi train 5 hour route. Then doing a boat tour for 2-3 hours on the lake. Any recommendations on a boat tour and the pros and cons of the rail ride. I was thinking of the 5 hour ride to the lake, then the 3 1/2 ride returning to Zermatt. Thank you in advance !
