Day trip to Zermatt and/or Chamonix from Montreux
A traveler plans to stay in Montreux for 5 days from August 21st to 25th and is looking for advice on day trips to Zermatt and Chamonix. They want to hike and see the Matterhorn, and are also considering the cable car to Aiguille du Midi. They have booked a Swiss Travel Pass for train travel.
- Both Zermatt and Chamonix are feasible as day trips, with travel durations between 2 to 2.5 hours by train.
- Check the train timetable to effectively plan your trips.

Hello,
I will be staying in Montreux for 5 days from August 21st to 25th and would like to do a day trip to Zermatt. Ideally it would involve enough time to do some hiking and to get a good view of the Matterhorn, weather permitting. If anyone could advise whether there is a feasible itinerary for this I would be grateful.
I have also been told that I should not miss doing a day trip to Chamonix to take the cable car to see Aiguille du Midi. Same question as above – is it feasible to do this in a day? If you had to choose one or the other what would you do?
I have booked a Swiss Pass so plan to use trains if possible.
Merci/Danke/Thanks!
