We are arriving in Geneva on mon 16 december. We are travelling to Grindelwald on Tuesday 17 returning to Geneva on sat 21st and looking for advice about train tickets. I have read a lot of posts in the forum but still not sure what would be the best option as we don’t really need a 3 day pass. Is it best to buy tickets in advance or on the day? I have seen the saver day travel pass to buy in advance which if i bought now would be around £40pp. Would this be something worth doing? Looking at a rough idea of prices it seems worth it for the flexibility and good to know that we have the tickets in place.

    Thanks in advance 🙂

    Hi Racho812,

    Thank you for joining MySwissAlps!

Will you just be visiting Grindelwald and Geneva or planning to explore other regions?

For long distance travel for 1 or 2 days, the Saver Day Pass is certainly a good value and you can buy them in advance for even cheaper. But they do run out and do not offer discounts on mountain railways and cable cars.

Please refer to this link for a detailed description about the Saver Day Pass

In addition to the Saver Day Pass, you might want to consider getting the Swiss Half Fare card. With the Swiss Half Fare card you get discounted fares on all public transports and some mountain railways and cable cars . If you want to go up the mountains, this will probably make more economic sense. You do need to buy a ticket for each journey but if you install the SBB app on your mobile, this can be done easily on the go. To get more details please see these links:

SBB Mobile can be downloaded here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ab outswitzerland/practic al/websites

Here’s how to calculate which option is most economical: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Anna
