Short summary – read this first

Subhayan is traveling to Interlaken in the second half of May and has some queries about his trip. He is planning to use a Swiss Travel Pass for lake cruises and wants to know about reservations, ferry schedules, and the difference between cruise and ferry terminals. This information will help him plan better for his visit.

Key takeaways:
  • The Swiss Travel Pass includes boat trips on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and no reservations are needed for regular boats.
  • You can check ferry ride schedules using the SBB timetable or download printed timetables from the official website.
  • Normal boats and special cruises depart from the same terminals, so you won’t have to worry about confusion.

    Hi,

I will be travelling Interlaken in 2nd Half of May 2022. I have the following queries:

    1. I will be taking a swiss travel pass, assuming that cruise on both the lakes are included is there any reservation required for the cruise on both the lakes? Also is there any limit to the no of persons who can board in case of no reservations.

    2. I am planning to stay near Nuehaus Ferry terminal, will it be possible to share the summer timetable for the ferry rides from this terminal.

    3. Are cruise and ferry terminals same or different.

    Thanks

    Subhayan

    Hi Subhayan,

Yes, the Swiss Travel Pass is valid for boat trips on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. You can check the Swiss Travel Pass validity and download the validity map here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity

No reservations are required except if you are planning on taking a special or packaged cruise with dinners and entertainment. You can plan your boat trips using the SBB timetable (use the advance option to view only boat connections). Alternatively, you can download the printed timetable from the official website. You can find the link here: http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakebrienz/gettingthere (please click on information from other websites).

In general, normal boats and special cruises leave from the same terminals.

Hope this helps in your trip planning. Let us know if you need more information.

    Regards,

    Anna
