Do Swiss mountains still have snow in June?

Short summary – read this first

Thy is planning a 4-day trip to Lucerne in the second week of June and wants to visit Mt. Titlis, Rigi, and Pilatus. They are curious about the snow conditions at these locations and whether they can take a day trip to Jungfraujoch from Lucerne while avoiding summer crowds.

Key takeaways:
  • Expect to see snow at Jungfraujoch and Mt. Titlis in June, but Rigi might be snow-free and there may be leftover snow at Pilatus.
  • You can make a day trip from Lucerne to Jungfraujoch, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours one way, so plan for a long day.
  • Consider taking a circular route to enjoy more sights in the Jungfrau region during your trip.

    Hello,

We plan to visit Mt. Titlis, Rigi, and Pilatus the 2nd week of this June since Lucerne will be our base for 4 days. We are wondering if there is still snow up there?

If not, will Jungfraujoch still have snow? And can we make a day trip to Jungfraujoch from Lucerne? We are concerned about the busy crowd for summer travel.

    Thank you so much.

    Hi Heart Voyage,

Yes, Jungfraujoch and Titlis will have still snow in June as they have an altitude of over 3000 m.

Probably there won’t be snow at Rigi (elevation: 1800 m), and maybe there will be snow at Pilatus (elevation: 2100 m). It is a bit difficult to predict because of global warming.

Yes, you can make a day trip from Lucerne to Jungfraujoch, although that will be a long day. Here is how you can get to the Jungfraujoch from Interlaken: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/gettingthere. Oneway is around 3,5-4 hours, but the getting there is at least half of the beauty and attractions. Also, you do not need to travel from Interlaken to the same route, you can make a circle, so you can see even more from the Jungfrau region.

    I hope this helps,

    Ildiko

I was visiting Mt. Pilatus in June 2019 from the US and the only snow at the top was some small remnants. It was a beautiful and would highly recommend.
