We are arriving Switzerland by mid August and planning to visit Mount Titlis. Should we purchase Mt Titlis ticket online in advance? Or can we wait and purchase on same day? Or may be just 2 days before visiting the mountain will be good enough?

    Regards.

    Hi Pumpkinpie17,

you do not have to book your tickets in advance for Titlis. If you would like to book them, you can do it 1-2 days in advance, but first make sure to check the weather forecast. You can get your tickets here: http://www.myswissalps.com/titlis/tickets.

Are you going to have a rail pass that grants you a discount on Titlis?

    Hi Pumpkinpie17,

Generally speaking, one should always wait until the day of before purchasing mountain passes. In this way you will better know the weather for that day’s excursion. By buying in advance, you are always stuck with the tix no matter what, and possibly a waste of money. Most hotels do have a ‘live cam’ of sorts, and maybe even weather forecasts to better get a grip on the weather above.

Not sure if you’re staying in Lucerne, but if so, the weather in/over Mt Titlis could be drastically different from that in Lucerne. This way too, you could look into other options such as Mt Rigi, Mt Pilatus, or Stanserhorn, or just walking around Lucerne. You can always purchase your tix the day of through the links provided by Ildiko, or wherever you were getting them from originally.

(For example) since I had the STP, I went to go the Stanserhorn by train, it rained like all heck, so I went back to Lucerne, which was cloudy, and it cleared up by the time I went back on the train to Alpnachtstad to spend the night up on Mt Pilatus (all of which cost me nothing with the STP).

Hope this helps you in some way. Enjoy your trip.
