Engadin card from hotel & Swiss Travel Pass Flex

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a week-long trip to Switzerland, starting in Zurich and visiting Appenzell and Pontresina before taking the Bernina Express. They are looking for advice on whether to purchase a 4-day Swiss Travel Pass Flex for their journey, as they already have a local travel pass from their hotel in Pontresina.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider the Engadin card since it offers great benefits, including coverage for part of the Bernina Railway.
  • Look into the Graubünden Pass for alternative travel options.
  • Take advantage of the Swiss Travel Pass promotion to save 25% on your purchase.

I’m trying to figure out which pass to get in light of the big promo! In 2019, thanks to the advice on this wonderful forum, we got a 15-day pass and were so spoiled from taking all these wonderful journeys all around Switzerland, jumping on all modes of transport and entering museums without a care in the world. In 2022, our time in Switzerland will be only a week (:. We are arriving in ZRH and then leaving the next day for Appenzell, staying 2 nights, then heading to Pontresina where we will stay for 4 nights, and finally take the Bernina Express to Tirano and the train to Varenna. The Hotel in Pontresina will be giving us a local travel pass for travel within the region. My thought is we should get a 4-day Swiss Travel Pass Flex for the days we would be taking the train to and touring Appenzell (3 days) and then after using the Engadin pass, using the 4th day for taking the Bernina Express. Does this make sense? Thank you in advance!

Sounds like you’ve already worked it out perfectly!

The Engadin card is one of the better ‘stay in our area and get a guest card’ offers, with much more free stuff than many guest cards offer.

It even covers the Bernina Railway half way to Tirano! (food for thought), namely:, St. Moritz – Alp Grüm,

(as well as RhB trains St Moritz – Samedan – Cinuos-chel/Brail, Samedan – Pontresina and Bever – Spinas

    Hi Ninachen,

have a look at the Graubünden Pass at http://www.myswissalps.com/graubundenpass, maybe you’ll find it useful too.

Anyway, to be sure that you’ll choose the best option, I recommend downloading our calculation spreadsheet from http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass. That will help you to compare your options.

Also, as you’ve said the Swiss Travel Pass promotion: 25% discount is a very good deal, make sure to have it as an option when you are making the comparison All of the details about the promotion: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/swiss-travel-pass-25-off-until-11-december-2021

I hope these will help you, let us know if you have more questions,

    Ildiko
