Fondue/rösti: Montreux, Gruyères, Mürren, Lucerne

Short summary – read this first

Prasun09 is planning to visit Montreux, Gruyer, Murren, and Lucerne and wants to find restaurants that serve vegetarian cheese fondue, raclette, and rösti. They noted the cost of fondue is per person and asked for budget-friendly options, as they are unfamiliar with this pricing concept from their home country.

Key takeaways:
  • Always check the price per person for fondue as it’s a common practice in Switzerland, which can add up quickly.
  • Use apps like 'Happy Cow' to find vegetarian restaurants in Switzerland.
  • In Lucerne, consider dining at Schiffrestaurant Tell for a unique experience on an old paddle steamer with fondue starting around CHF 36.
  • For budget-friendly options, ask your hotel or the local tourist office for recommendations.

    Hi

i was looking for a vegetarian cheese fondue, vegetarian racelet and vegetarian roesti restaurant in Montreux , gruyer , Murren , lucerne.

can you suggest me good restaurants which serve them?

I was going through menu of gruyere village’s restaurants. I found it’s written 52 Swiss franc per person. Minimum two required. Does it mean it will cost 104 Swiss franc for 2 people. It’s costly.

Is there any concept of per person for cheese fondue everywhere in Switzerland ? We don’t have such concept in our country. I’m completely unaware of it. We are 2 people. Could you recommend some budget friendly place in these area for eating cheese fondue ?

    Hi Prasun09,

You’ve understood correctly, 52 CHF per person, so yes, 104 CHF in total. It’s quite standard to be charged per person for a fondue meal. I do think 52CHF is quite high though. I’ve normally paid around 30-35CHF per person.

There is a vegetarian app called “Happy Cow” : you can research vegetarian restaurants in Switzerland. The Fork is another one, though the Fork includes all cuisines but you can search by cuisine.

Another option, you can also ask in the local tourist office or your hotel should be able to help too.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

That menu seems to be written correctly but about twice what I have seen in the mountains. Check out this restaurant in Murren, staegerstuebli.chfood & drink. It is one of our favorites for fondue.

    Hello Prasun09,

In Lucerne, I would recommend the Schiffrestaurant Tell. You can eat on an old paddle steamer and there is a good selection of fondues. A portion costs about CHF 36. A reservation is recommended.

    Have a great trip!

    Martin
