I will spend 3 full days with 4 adults this Dec and accommodation is located at Geneva. Would like to visit Geneva city, Montreux Christmas market, snow mountain, scenic places. I need help on the snow mountain trip and day 3.

Day 1, travel around Geneva city.

Day 2, a day trip to Montreux for city tour and evening Christmas market.

Day 3, a day trip to one of the snow mountain. Is it possible to go to Chamonix Mont Blanc by ourselves? How to book the train and cable car ticket to the mountain? Or any nearby snow mountain?

As I have booked my train ticket to Montreux and reach there by 0941am, is it good to go to Glacier 3000 instead (in the evening go to Montreux Christmas market)? Then day 3 go to another city like Lausanne?

Thanks in advance for your advices.

    Hi Kah178,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

I think combining the day trip to Montreux and excursion to Glacier 3000 in one day is possible. To get to Glacier 3000 from Montreux, you can either take the Golden Pass train to Gstaad (2.5h) or travel via Aigle (1.5h). I would do the mountain excursion in the morning and return to Montreux in time for the Christmas Market in the evening. Alternatively, you could just visit the local mountain Rochers-de-Naye which is easily accessible from Montreux. There might or might not be snow at the top though. You can find information about about how to get to Glacier 300 and Rochers-de-Naye in the following links:

    Hope this helps.

    Dear Anna,

Is there any way to travel from Geneva to Chamonix Mont Blanc?

Is it by bus or train? Where to get the transport ticket and book the cable car up to the snow mountain?

Once again, thanks for your time to share the information. It is useful.

    Hi Kah178,

It is possible to do a day trip to Chamonix Mont Blanc from Geneva with the train. You can either travel via Martigny or St Gervais. Please use the SBB timetable to plan your journey and check train schedules: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable. There are also options to take guided tours like this one if you find that’s more convenient. Tickets for the cable car can be purchased from the valley station.

    Regards,

    Anna

The Independent day at Chamonix and Mont-Blanc from Geneva tour package by Viator itinerary meet my plan.

I chat online with Viator customer agent to check any additional cost for optional cable and train ride, but they said it is included in the package price $94.48. Then this a a good deal and I find most agency quoted $200++ with cable and train..

Anyone has tried this package before?

Trip Only : (KTG121) – Trip Only: Round-trip coach transport from Geneva, with free time in Chamonix. Trip has flexible hours and depends on availability for $94.48.
