I hope so Queenie, as that is what I have done.  I have a seat reservation in Excellence Class, a first class saver day pass and I still need to buy a Half Fare Card as I used that for the Day Pass.

What day are you catching the GE?

Hi DebH, Hopefully I can get a seat 1st class for 2nd October. Today when I looked at 12 midnight 93 days ahead there was no seats available 1st or 2nd class.  I have to travel on the 2nd  so I am anticipating I might have to do the regular train fromZermatt to St Moritz.  When are you travelling?

We are travelling on the 1st October, so will miss you by a day.

This is (hopefully) the highlight of our 40th Anniversary trip, and the stress would have done my head in, so we booked Excellence Class.  A silly amount of money, but we will will enjoy the day, we love food and wine and I have been told that the food is good.

Good luck with your reservation, and as I am sure you know, if you miss out, try again a month before.

Just a note though, I just had a look at there are still first class seats left for all of 27th, 28th and 29th September, so as long as you don’t dither you shouldn’t have a problem.

The Swiss rail system is a very stressful one…..so much to consider.  Certainly has taken some joy out of planning my panoramic train holiday in Switzerland.
Hotel bookings have been very easy and the travel formums have been a great help.
Enjoy your Excellence Journey.  Are you going to be travelling on the Bernina Express as well?

Queenie, yes we are.  We are starting in Varenna, where we have been before, to relax and get over the long flight from Australia.

We then train to Tirano, stay overnight, then BE to St. Moritz, stay there for two nights and then the GE to Zermatt.

We absolutely love European train travel so can’t wait.

After three nights in Zermatt we head to Wengen for seven nights, then the Golden Pass express to Montreux for the final six.

It has been a marathon of planning, but luckily I love doing it and forums like this are incredibly helpful.

What are the rest of your plans?
