You need to buy one way tickets for each single journey, for example if you want to go Alpnachstad – Pilatus and back to Alphachstad, look for the box ‘tickets from Alpnachstad (uphill). Then go to the box labelled ‘tickets from Pilatus Kulm’ to get back down

You’re right. As explained above, you don’t need tickets the Golden or Silver round trip, as parts of those trips are already covered by your Swiss Travel Pass.
All you need is a 50% discounted return ticket. You’ll find several options under “Tickets for an independent day trip to Mount Pilatus” at https://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus/gettingthere.

It’s the official SBB tourist webshop, and it’s an easy e-ticket for which you can indicate you’re entitled to the Swiss Travel Pass discount. The return ticket is valid for both routes. So you can get up and down via Alpnachstad and Kriens (or twice via the same route) however you like. You don’t have to specify this in advance.
