Time to change trains Zweisimmen Golden Pass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip on June 23, concerned about making a tight connection for the Golden Pass train in Zweisimmen. They have only 5 minutes to switch from the 1:08 train from Interlaken Ost to the 14:25 train to Montreux and are worried about what happens if they miss it. They seek reassurance and advice on their situation.

Key takeaways:
  • Zweisimmen is a small station, and 5 minutes is generally enough time to change trains safely.
  • If you miss your connection, you can take the next regional train 30 minutes later without needing to wait for another Golden Pass train.
  • Your ticket will still be valid even if you miss your reservation, just keep in mind the reservation itself won't be valid.

Good morning – I am concerned about making my connection for the Golden Pass train. On June 23, 2019 I reserved seats on the 1:08 train from Interlaken Ost to Zweisimmen (arrival 14:20) carriage 11 (first class) and then reserved seats on the 14:25 Zweisimmen to Montreux (arrival 16:14). That only gives us 5 min with luggage to make the transfer in Zweisimmen. If that isn’t ok and I miss it…will I be able to just get on the later train (which is about 2 hrs later!) without having reserved seats? Thank you in advance.

    Hi Luriemichell,

This station is quite small so I’m sure you will have enough time to change trains but perhaps there are others who can comment from personal experience: http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass

If the train shows as a connection on the timetable, there should not be a problem: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

    Hope this helps!

    Maria.

You’ll be fine. You just walk from one side of same platform to the other. This is a major tourist connection. Staff will ensure you make the connection.

In the very unlikely event you miss the connection the next regular regional train leaves 30 minutes later. No need to wait for next Golden Pass train if you don’t want. Your ticket (or pass) will still be valid but not your reservation.

This is a common question on this forum.

Swiss connecting times are designed to work and 5 minutes at Zweisimmen indicates that it is not a big station and it won’t be far between the two trains. Also, 5 minutes is actually longer than it seems when changing trains at most Swiss stations – just follow everyone else, and there will also be staff around as well.

By the way they are soon going to introduce variable-track-gauge trains so the change of trains will no longer be necessary
