We are staying in Wengen September 2-6. One day we want to hike from First to Schynige Platte. I understand it is about 8.3 miles (15 km) and we need to allow 6 hours for the hike. We are planning to ride the series of gondolas to First and the cog train from Schynige Platte to Wilderswil. Do you know the hours of operation in September for the gondolas and Schynige Platte train? The most people walk from Schynige Platte to First but First to Schynige platte is also posible.

Thanks, Is there a reason people would choose one way over the other. Which way is easiest. Looks like less elevation to clinb from First to Schynige Platte . Also do you know when the gondolas open in September fromWengen and Mannlichen to First. Would like to get an early start. Looks like last train down from Schynige Platte is about 5:50 PM

Hi Marki,

It’s more of a gradual long climb going from Schynige Platte to First, while it’s a shorter climb and long descent from First to Schynige Platte. You’ll find all gondola/train schedules in the timetable.

Firstbahn timetable september 2017:

14.08. – 03.09.2017 | 08.30 bis 18.00 Uhr

You can also do: Wengen>Mannlichen>Grindelwald grund > walk to stationWAB> Grindelwald Grund> Grindelwald station. This is a very nice route.
