We will be in that vicinity 1 week earlier and will now hopefully change our accommodation dates at Lucerne to check out on Saturday or Sunday April 9th 2018. Note here, we are travelling next year not 2017.
A further question here though, will a Swiss Rail Pass allow us to use the Gotthard Express, including the boat or is this a private rail outfit where ticket purchases are made elsewhere.

If the official Gotthard Panorama Express isn’t possible while you’re there, mind that you can easily travel the exact same route by regular (regional) trains. It’s explained at our Gotthard Panorama Express page, the one Lucas linked to.
Yes, the Swiss Travel Pass fully covers this route. Please see the Swiss Travel Pass validity overview. The only additional costs would be the seat reservations, but if you travel the route by regular trains, these too won’t be necessary.
