Montreux or Lausanne for city walk and shopping

Short summary – read this first

Nidhi is planning her third trip to Switzerland, focusing on Zermatt, Gstaad, and the Geneva region. On her final day, she needs advice on whether to visit Montreux or Lausanne for 2-3 hours before her flight, aiming to shop for chocolates, a luxury Swiss watch, and enjoy regional food.

Key takeaways:
  • Visit Lausanne for food options and chocolate shopping, especially at the Globus department store.
  • Montreux is great for enjoying the lake views and has chocolate and watch shopping as well.
  • For affordable chocolates, check out the supermarkets like Co-op and Migros.
  • Consider convenience when planning your city walk before heading to the airport, ensuring you leave enough time for travel.

    Hi there

We will be visiting switzerland third time.

Our last trip was planned well by taking suggestions from this forum and all went very well.

This time we will be visiting Zermatt, Gstaad and Geneva region after taking the inputs from this forum.

on our last day trip we have to travel from Gstaad to geneva airport, we have a flight at 9PM, and we will take a ferry to go to geneva.

My question is should we go to Montruex or Lussanne for a short city walk as we have 2-3 hours to spend.

Our bucket list that day includes shopping choclates (nestle, lindtt etc, and not the boutique ones) and a luxury swiss watch and some amazing food of the region.

It would be great help if you suggest where to go and which is the best place to shop.

    Thanks

    Nidhi

    Hi nidhi,

You can find chocolates and watches in Lausanne, Gstaad and Montreux. Lausanne might be better for food. They have a department store called Globus where they have a nice food collection. If you would like to enjoy the lake, go to Montreux. For a city walk I would suggest Lausanne.

If you don’t want “fancy” chocolates, the supermarkets like Co-op and Migros usually have a good range of chocolate bars at cheaper prices!
