Sorry, I thought you were just calculating the price of the different passes and did not realise that you were also calculating the cost of cable cars, activities etc.

Have you downloaded the SBB app onto your phone yet? I found it very useful when looking for fares and routes when I was in the planning stages of our holiday and I believe you can buy your train tickets on the move whilst you are out there using the app. It also gives up to date information on which platform you need, stops on your journey and walking routes to bus stops, cable car stations, boats etc from train stations.

    Good luck with your planning.

    Hi Lamb616,

with Swiss Travel Pass and Regional Pass Bernese Oberland “you just wave your pass and go on through” if it gives you 100% discount on the route. In case of 50% discount, you still need to buy the additional ticket.

I do not know how much it costs to hire a car, but for sure it is not cheap either, not to mention, that you cannot use it in Murren, as it is a car-free village: http://www.myswissalps.com/mu rren. Also if you are not used to driving on mountain routes it can be a bit tricky. See this: http://www.myswissalps.com/ca rversustrain. So in brief, I do not recommend to hire a car. I know it is not easy to pick the best pass for you, but once you are done, it will be very comfortable to travel by train in Switzerland. So just keep going, you will have a nice holiday with your kids! 🙂

Wengen, where you are staying for 4 days is also car free and so in addition to paying for car hire you will also have to pay for car parking in Lauterbrunnen and catch a train to and from Wengen each day.

Yes, right, Wengen, not Murren. I thought Wengen. Thanks Jane! 🙂

I was actually talking about hiring a car with driver to drop us off, not renting a car. You know, like an Uber type. 🙂

And after you are in Wengen? Are you going to take any pass for the mountain trips?

    Hi Lamb616

You do realise that Lauterbrunnen is 244 km from Zurich Airport. I have no idea how much a taxi would cost for that length of journey. You will still need to use the trains/cable cars/boats etc to complete your varied itinerary.
