Help with ski-rail pass promotion with SBB

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Wengen and wants to know if their two-day rail-ski pass purchased through SBB can be used separately from their rail ticket. They intend to travel from Interlaken Ost to Wengen on January 10th but want to ski on January 11th and 12th, returning to Interlaken on the 13th.

Key takeaways:
  • Check that your ski pass data carrier is combined with the order confirmation and print it to show the conductor.
  • Consider whether a Swiss Half Fare Card or Saver Day Pass might save you money, depending on your travel plans around Switzerland.

Does anyone know if you need to use your two day rail -ski pass purchased through SBB the same day as your rail ticket ? For example can you go from Interlaken Ost to Wengen on Jan 10th and start using the ski pass on the Jan 11th & 12th and then return to Interlaken Ost on the 13th ? The SBB is confusing and very limited in advice. All I could find was below

    Hit: Snow’n’Rail Jungfrau / Grindelwald-Wengen – 2-days

    Notes:

The ski pass data carrier is only valid in combination with the order confirmation. Please print the order confirmation. It must be presented to the conductor in the trains.

    thank you,

Very unclear to me. I think it is as you say it is but can’t be certain.

The notes you copied aren’t relevant.

What I would say is that this offer is really intended for people travelling to Wengen from much further afield than Interlaken – are you sure it is worth getting?

    Hi Cfilck,

Whether that saves you money overall depends on your total train travel in Switzerland. IE what are your travel plans before and after Interlaken – you must have more rail travel so it is possible that a Swiss Half Fare Card or perhaps a Saver Day Pass could be worthwhile looking at and then 2 a day day lift ticket for the area around Wengen you want to ski at.

Have you seen their page on this offer and what it includes? http://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/ideas/offer.h tml/snow-n-rail/jungfrau-ski-region

I’m not familiar with the product but it also talks about loading this product on your Swiss Pass which is a product generally only used by Swiss residents.

I also replied to your other post which seems to be the same topic: http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/2-day-ski-pass-promotion-with-saver-day-pass
