Hi all,

 

I’m considering staying in lauterbrunnen for 3-4 days this July with my girlfriend. We love hiking and that would be the main purpose of the stay. However after looking into it a little bit it seems like a lot of the recommended hiking trails require expensive trains/cable cars to reach. I’m wondering if there are good hikes that can be reached by foot from the town of lauterbrunnen. We’re relatively experienced hikers so would prefer 2-3 full day hikes that get us up high with good views etc, but I’m worried that all of these type of hikes maybe require spending a lot of money on cable cars and trains. Is it possible to hike in lauterbrunnen without using them, or should we look somewhere else?

Hi Mac44,

Yes, there are several trails in Lauterbrunnen which you can access without using the cable cars. The hike from Lauterbrunnen to the Trummelbach Falls via Stechelberg is a pleasant and easy one. You can find details here: https://www.myswissalps.com/blog/hike-lauterbrunnen-stechelberg/

The cableway ride to from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren is not that expensive. A single return ticket is roughly CHF11 without any discount. If you are planning a lot of mountain excursions and hikes, I recommend getting the Jungfrau Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/jungfrau-travel-pass/) which would give you free access to nearly all the public and mountain transportation in the Jungfrau region.
