How does Swiss Travel Pass work on Glacier Express

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named BevKev is planning a trip to Switzerland and wants to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass three weeks in advance for their Glacier Express journey. They’re wondering if they can just show the pass at the station and if refunds are possible if their plans change.

Key takeaways:
  • Present your Swiss Travel Pass at the station to board the Glacier Express without needing additional tickets, but remember to make a seat reservation online.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass is suitable for multi-day travel, so it’s a good choice for your 4-day itinerary.
  • If you need to cancel your Swiss Travel Pass, you can do so up to 1 business day before your trip depending on the reseller.

I’m going to be purchasing our Swiss travel pass 3 weeks before travelling as we are booked on Glacier express. Buying early as away from home prior to trip and want everything printed and in order

Do I just show our pass when we get to the station ? And secondly if for any reason we can’t take this trip can we get refunds for the passes?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi BevKev,

Welcome to the forum, thanks for joining us!

If you have the Swiss Travel Pass, there is no need to get additional tickets to ride the Glacier Express. You can present your STP at the station and just board the train. However you do need to make a seat reservation. You can do this online: http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/tickets

Just curious though. Are you planning to travel for a few days or just one day on the Glacier Express? The Swiss Travel Pass is a multi-day pass and ideal if you are travelling for more than 2 days. If you change your plans, you can cancel the STP up to 1 business day before your trip depending on which reseller you purchase it from.

For shorter travel, the Saver Day Pass is a good option. This is also valid on the Glacier Express and other modes of public transport for 1 day. You can find the details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass

Would this pass work for you?

    Regards,

    Anna

    Thank you.

I’m flying into Zurich, then day 2 train to St Moritz ready for Glacier express day 3( I have reserved seats). Then have day 4 in Zermatt and day 5 train to Geneva to fly home. So buying a 4 day pass so I can get around.
