Hi Sewchek–changing trains with suitcases at Lauterbrunnen to take the cog wheel train up to Wengen is easy and the travel time is only 15 minutes or so. An added plus is the beautiful view you will have of the Lauterbrunnen Valley as you ascend to Wengen!
And make sure you sit on the right side of the train to get views like this…

Something else to keep in mind. The last time I was there the train leaving Interlaken Ost was in 2 sections. Further along the line the train split in 2 and 1 section went to Lauterbrunnen and the other went to Grindelwald (I assume they still do this), so make sure you are in the right carriage before you leave. If you are in the wrong section, don’t panic, you can change carriages at the Widerswil stop.
