Interlaken region, end of March – hiking, skiing?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Quek is planning a trip to the Interlaken region from March 23-26, aiming to revisit Jungfrau and Grindelwald. They are curious about whether hiking trails will be open during this time and are also looking for recommendations for a short skiing intro course for their wife.

Key takeaways:
  • Hiking trails in the region will likely be closed until mid-June, but some low-elevation trails and lakeside walks may be accessible.
  • Consider snowshoeing as a fun winter activity; many resorts offer this option.
  • For a beginner ski course for your wife, visit local ski schools in Interlaken and the surrounding areas for great introductory options.

    Hello Quek,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps!

Hiking in the Swiss Alps in March will really possible because it is still winter. However, hiking around the lakes in the Interlaken area or a few low elevation trails perhaps. Otherwise the trails are closed till around until mid-June. I would recommend snowshoeing because it is available available at most ski resorts and tourist attractions. You can see suggestions on hikes around the Jungfrau area here:

In the meanwhile you could take a look at these links about hiking and various snow activities:

If you go to any of the ski schools at the various mountain resorts, I am sure they could best guide your wife to a great ski introduction course.

Be sure to take a look at these links:

    Good luck!

    Best regards,

    Suzanne
