Planning to travel by train in July from Interlaken to Colmar. It is 3 hours to travel through Basel or 4 to take the scenic train to Lucerne and then on to Colmar. If we traveled through Lucerne we would stop for lunch. Is it worth it for the longer journey? Our first time in Switzerland. TIA!

    Hi OGShanti, welcome to MySwissAlps!

If you have the time, I’d definitely recommend traveling via Lucerne. The scenic route via the Brünig Pass is part of the famous GoldenPass train line, and absolutely worth it: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/goldenpass/

For a lunch in Lucerne, consider one of the restaurants on the Rathausquai: a street close to the rail station with plenty of culinary options, and lovely views of the river Reuss and the famous Chapel Bridge. More about Lucerne is available here: https://www.myswissalps.com/town/lucerne/

I hope this helps you choose :-).
