Is May a good time to visit the Oeschinen lake?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Ayzeza is planning a visit to Oeschinen Lake in early May and is unsure if it's a good time to go, as they want to visit without hiking. They received advice that the cable car to the lake is under maintenance during that period, suggesting they consider other options for beautiful lake views instead.

Key takeaways:
  • Check the cable car service for Oeschinen Lake before your visit, as it may be closed for maintenance in early May.
  • Consider visiting Gornergrat in Zermatt for stunning views of the Matterhorn, accessible year-round via a cogwheel train.
  • Look into enjoying boat trips on Lake Thun or Lake Brienz for beautiful scenery if Oeschinen Lake is not an option.
  • Spring weather in early May can be wet; however, it does not usually rain all day and flowers are often in bloom at lower altitudes.

    Hi Ayzeza,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

As far as I know, the cable car to Oeschinen Lake goes into maintenance from mid April to mid-May. So early May might be too early to plan a trip to Oeschinensee. You can check the operating hours on the website.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Ayzeza,

Perhaps a trip to Gornergrat in Zermatt to view the Matterhorn? The cogwheel train to Gornergrat runs all year round. Most travellers do the short walk to Riffelsee to take a photo of the Matterhorn. Alternatively you can take boat trips on Lake Thun or Lake Brienz.

Another one, i recently read that early May is not a best time to visit Swiss coz its a rainy season there. Is it rainy the whole day in the whole place? Hows the rainy season there? All place covered with mist?

    Hi Azyeza,

Early May is considered Spring season. In the high mountains there may still be snow but down in the valleys, most likely flowers will be in full bloom. And it’s a great time for hiking at low altitudes. The weather in Springtime can be a bit wet but it doesn’t usually rain the whole day. You can find more information about the the year-round weather in Switzerland here: http://www.myswissalps.com/besttimetovisit

    Regards,

    Anna
