Lucerne is a very good choice for a visit in April. I definitely recommend the Golden Pass. The route is described at our Golden Pass page. You can either check the specific Golden Pass timetable using the link under “More on other websites” at this page, or consult the general timetable. Trains between Montreux and Interlaken are called “Golden Pass” here, trains between Interlaken and Lucerne are referred to as “Luzern-Interlaken Express”. Fill out via-stations along the route, like Zweisimmen and Meiringen, for Golden Pass connections (otherwise, the timetable will show another quicker route by default).
Which pass is best, strongly depends on the details of your itinerary: how long exactly your stay will last, what day trips you’ll be making from Lucerne, your city or airport of departure, etc. A 4 day Swiss Travel Pass may be a good fit. Depending on the duration of your stay it may not cover the last day(s), but this doesn’t have to be a problem if you only make some shorter trips during these days. For example, you could visit Zurich then; Lucerne-Zurich is a relatively short ride, and the local ZurichCARD may cover your needs.
