June visit: Mt Pilatus, Mt. Titlis, Mt.Bürgenstock

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Lucerne with two colleagues from June 11 to June 13, aiming to visit Mt Pilatus, Mt Titlis, and Mt Burgenstock. They want to know if their schedule for these mountain visits is practical, given their arrival and departure times. With only three days, they want to maximize their experience in Lucerne before heading to Rome.

Key takeaways:
  • Allow over an hour to reach Mt Pilatus from Lucerne and consider potential wait times for tickets at either Alpnachstad or Kriens.
  • Always ask for a return ticket for a different route when purchasing your ascent ticket.
  • Check the weather conditions via a webcam before heading out to the mountain.
  • Start early on your departure day to ensure you have enough time for Mt Burgenstock and can return to Lucerne punctually.

I will be in Lucerne with 2 of my colleagues in June. We hope to arrive in Lucerne at around 10:30 am on June 11, and get on the bus for Rome at 5:30 pm June 13. So we get approximate 3 days in Lucerne.

The plan is to get 3 day Tell-passes and use them this way –

Day 1: Mt Pilatus silver round trip after arriving. Start at 11:30 am.

    Day 2: Mt Titlis

Day 3: Mt Burgenstock (Felsenweg hike and Hammetschwand lift) before getting back to Lucerne at 4:30 pm and catch bus at 5:30 pm

On day 1, we should be able to start at ~11:30 am after storing our bags at the hotel. On day 3, we need to be back to Lucerne by 4:30 pm, so we can have an hour before getting to the bus stop.

Based on the times we will arrive on the first day and leave on the last day, are the Mt Pilatus and Mt Burgenstock plans for those days practical?

Pilatus should be easily doable. It will take a little over one hour to get there from Luzern via train to Alpnachstad & cogwheel train to the top, or bus to Kriens and gondolas to the top. Same times to get back down to Luzern going either way. Two things to keep in mind, there may be a bit of a wait to get tickets for the cogwheel in Alpnachstad or the gondolas in Kriens, but that should still leave you plenty of time at the top. And, when you get your tickets for the way up remember to ask for the return ticket to be for the other way down. So if you go up via the cogwheel ask for the return ticket to be for the gondolas back down to Kriens; the default assumption is that you will be going up & down via the same route.

And check the weather cam at the top before leaving.

I have not been to Bergenstock but it is close to Luzern and you should have time for that on the last day if you start early in the morning. It looks interesting.
