Does the Jungfrau Travel Pass cover train ride Brienz – Interlaken?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Sanjeev is planning a three-day visit to the Jungfrau region and considering booking Hotel Weisses Kreuz on Lake Brienz. He wants to know if the Jungfrau Travel Pass includes train travel to Interlaken and if the area will be a comfortable base for his trip.

Key takeaways:
  • Use 'Brienz BE, Bahnhof' in the SBB app for correct train station information.
  • The Jungfrau Travel Pass now covers free train rides between Brienz and Interlaken, but not buses or the cogwheel railway.
  • Hotel Weisses Kreuz is conveniently located near the train station and boat landing, making it a good choice for exploring the Jungfrau region.

I was thinking of booking  a hotel on the Lake Brienz (Hotel Weisses KreuzHauptstrasse 143, 3855 Brienz). I was planning to buy the Jungfrau Travel Pass . I can see the Boat tours on Lake Brienz are included in this pass, but not sure If I can take the Trains to Interlaken / Jungfrau region from here.

As I will be coming in from Luzern, what is the train station name – Is it Brienz BE, Bahnhof? I am looking at the SBB app.

Also will this area / stay  be comfortable for my 3 days visit to the Jungfrau region?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Sanjeev

The correct name to type in to the SBB electronic timetable is indeed Brienz BE, Bahnhof.

With the Jungfrau Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/jungfrau-travel-pass/), it does give free travel on the Lake Brienz boats (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/boat-lake-brienz/).  It now also gives free travel on the trains between Brienz and Interlaken.  But it does not give free travel on the BUSES in the Brienz area, nor is it valid on the very  popular (steam-worked) cogwheel railway up the Brienzer Rothorn.

There are two trains an hour between Brienz and Interlaken Ost.  The stopping train takes 22 minutes, the fast train takes 17 minutes.  As you would expect in Switzerland, these trains are timed to arrive at Interlaken Ost to connect with the trains to Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald.

I know nothing of the qualities of the Weisses Kreuz. But the fact that the JTP is now valid on the trains along the north shore of the Brienzersee means that a hotel on the main street of Brienz should be OK for somebody looking for a base from which to visit the high mountains of the Jungfrau Region.

    Kind regards
    Roger

    Hi Sanjeev,

Brienz is a good choice as a base to explore the Jungfrau region. You can find further info here: https://www.myswissalps.com/town/brienz/

And Hotel Weisses Kreuz is located close to the Brienz train station and boat landing stage and therefore ideal for your plans.

    Regards,
    Anna
