Jungfrau Travel Pass with Eurail Global Pass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Switzerland in July with friends and wants to reach Jungfraujoch from Interlaken. They have a Eurail Global Pass and are asking if they need to purchase a Jungfrau Travel Pass, specifically if the pass includes the trip to Jungfraujoch and any discounts available for Eurail Pass holders.

Key takeaways:
  • If you're only going to Jungfraujoch for one day, you don't need the Jungfrau Travel Pass; just buy a return ticket with a 25% discount using your Eurail Global Pass.
  • The Jungfrau Travel Pass is only beneficial if you plan to travel around the Jungfrau region on multiple days.
  • Always buy a round trip ticket to Jungfraujoch instead of two separate tickets to save on costs.

My friends and I will be traveling in Switzerland in July and we will have the Eurail Global Pass… My question is do we need to buy a Jungfrau Travel Pass and if so… is the trip up to Jungfraujoch and back to Interlaken included in the Jungfrau Travel Pass? I also heard they’d a 25% discount on the Jungfrau Travel Pass if you have a Eurail Pass?

Hi Rmposton2 and welcome to MySwissAlps.com!

It depends on your itinerary, which pass is the best for you.

Here you can see the validity maps:

You get a 25% discount off from the price of the Jungfrau Travel Pass if you have a valid Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card at the time of traveling.

If you tell us more about your itinerary we can help you more.

We will be there for three days total in the Interlaken area and we want to take a day and go to the top of Jungfraujoch from Interlaken. We won’t need any transportation the other days… we just want to take the train to the top..

    I see.

If you do not travel more on the other days:

    • Jungfraujoch without any discounts or passes (in July): 214 CHF
    • With the Eurail Global Pass (25% off): 160 CHF
    • The price of the Jungfrau Travel Pass for 3 days: 179 CHF

So if you do not travel to any other places in the Jungfrau region on the other days the Jungfrau Travel Pass is not good for you. (Note, that even if you have a Jungfrau Travel Pass you still need to pay an extra 75 CHF for a return ticket to the Jungfraujoch.)

I recommend buying the Jungfraujoch ticket with your Eurail Global Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/tickets.

Ok so we don’t need the yungfrau travel pass if we just want to go up to jungfraujoch the one day. We just need the jungfraujoch ticket with the 25%off and a return ticket?

Yes, that is right. If you do not want to take a boat cruise or travel to other mountains, you do not need the Jungfrau Travel Pass, just a return ticket to the Jungfraujoch, discounted by 25% because of your Eurail Global Pass.

This is how you can get to the Jungfraujoch: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/gettingthere.

So would we get 25% off of the ticket up there and then 25% off for the ticket back down?

    Yes, sure.

But you are going to buy a round trip ticket, not 2 separate tickets.
