Kandersteg for 3 nights – activity and day trips suggestions

Short summary – read this first

Anastasia is visiting Switzerland for the first time and has a trip planned from May 17 to 20. She has booked accommodation in Kandersteg and is looking for activities around there since the cable cars to Oeschinensee are not in service. Additionally, she is excited to have sorted out the first leg of her trip in Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen.

Key takeaways:
  • Check the Oeschinensee cable car schedule before your visit, as it may be running during your stay.
  • Consider a day trip to Spiez, which is only about 30 minutes from Kandersteg; enjoy a boat trip on Lake Thun while there.
  • Use the Swiss travel timetable to find convenient train times for your excursions.

    Hi everyone!

I love this forum so much because it’s been a huge help for everyone and people like me visiting Switzerland for the first time.

My itinerary has changed a bit and may stay in Switzerland a bit longer. I’ve booked accommodation in kandersteg, I wanted to the oeschinese lake but the cable cars won’t be in service when I’m there between the 17 – 20th May.

besides Blausee and doing a day trip to Zermatt, is there anything else I can do whilst I’m in the area? 😊

    many thank you’s!

happy to say, I’ve booked the first leg of my trip Interlaken / Lauterbrunnen sorted!

    kindest

    Anastasia

    Hi Ana,

How about traveling to Spiez and taking a boat trip perhaps on Lake Thun?  There is a lovely gentle walk to be enjoyed whilst there too (https://www.myswissalps.com/blog/hike-faulensee-spiez/)

Spiez is only 30 minutes or so from Kandersteg.  You can research the train times using the Swiss timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/)

Boat trip information can be found in the below link:

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
