    Hi all,

I’m looking for a good hotel close to Zurich airport and close to train lines, ideally breakfast included. I will be travelling alone with my daughter so feeling very anxious to do this on my own. I would like to visit Zurich end of May for 3 nights. The things i would like to do during my visit are as follows:

    – visit lake Lucern -ideally want a hotel close so i can travel no more than 1.5 hours to get to lake Lucern

    – ride on the Glacier express or swiss panoramic trains. I don’t want to be on these trains the whole day, but join a few stops to experience it as my daughter will not want to be on the train the whole day. what kind of train pass should i purchase and can i buy it when i arrive? also how do i get to these stations from a hotel ?

i really appreciate any help you can give me, travelling alone with a child is quite scary!

    Thank you

    Fatima

    Hi Fatima,

You can find some Zurich airport hotel suggestions here: https://www.myswissalps.com/zurichairporthotels

Do use the timetable link so you can research travel times to Lucerne: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable. Here is also a helpful link about Lucerne – within, you can read about activities in the area, how to get around and lots more.

In regard to scenic train rides, this link will be a good starting point for you: https://www.myswissalps.com/activities/scenictrips/train

You can buy your rail pass online, however first you need to decide which one would best fit your trip. Many members find it useful to carry out a few calculations and that way they can be sure, the best option(s) are displayed, see here:

Switzerland’s travel network is very convenient, efficient and easy to navigate around. This is how most of us here travel. You are never far from a bus, tram, train or boat. I think you will do just fine with your daughter 🙂 You can read more about it here:

I hope this gets you started, feel free to reach out with any questions.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

The Circle at Zurich airport has lots of hotels you can walk to from the train station/airport. It’s basically connected to the station and there are many shops and restaurants right there for breakfast or snacks. I’ve stayed at the Radisson Blu and the Hyatt and both were nice.

Thank you all for your kind responses, this has been very helpful.

I have actually found a hotel called h+ hotel zürich, which I understand is close to Zurich airport and roughly 50 minutes away from lake lucerne Switzerland. this is a key place I wanted to visit so a hotel not too far from here is good for me. If anyone can please let me know the best way to travel to lake lucerne Switzerland from this hotel i would be grateful, for example the best train to take as i wish to travel by train.

Also apart from the Glacier express are their any other train routes i can take from h+ hotel zürich which will give me a scenic route to enjoy?

    Thanks

    Fatima

    Hi Fatima,

It’s good to know you ‘ve found a hotel near the airport.

If you’re planning a day trip to Lucerne, the most convenient way is by train from Zurich Airport or Zurich HB (Zurich main station).

You can use the SBB timetable to check for the fastest connection. Just enter your hotel address in the location box, and Luzern as your destination, then click on the search button. More details on how to use the SBB timetable are available here: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

If you’re interested in enjoying scenic trips from Zurich, there are various boat cruises on Lake Zurich you can choose from. Also you can take the train from Zurich HB directly to the Rhine Falls: http://www.myswissalps.com/rhinefalls/gettingthere

You can find more sightseeing options in Zurich here: http://www.myswissalps.com/zurich/activities.

    Regards,

    Anna
