    Hi, we will be in the Interlaken regio next September, but we are planning to spend to days in (the neighbourhood) of Lucerne. We are with two children, 12 and 14 years old. Can anyone give me some ideas about what to do or see in Lucerne?

    Thank you.

    Krister

    Hi Krister,

    Lucerne and its surroundings offer lots of activities for a 2 day stay. Here are some examples:

    • strolling along the old town centre and the famous Kappel bridge near the central railway station;
    • a boat ride on the lake;
    • Mt. Pilatus, accessible by either a steep cog railway track from Alpnachstadt or cable car from Kriens (close to Lucerne). In clear weather, even the Bernese Alps can be seen from this viewing point;
    • Mt. Rigi, another beautiful viewing point above lake Lucerne, accessible by cog railway from Arth-Goldau or Vitznau;
    • the ‘Verkehrshaus‘, a large museum on Swiss traffic and traffic history, which is very interesting for children as well.

    You may want to take a look at the Lucerne tourism website as well for more tips.

    Have a nice stay!

    Hi Krister, if weather is fine during your stay, I’d recommend that you make the trip to Mt. Rigi! It’s called ‘Queen of the mountains’ and I understand why. The train trip is a fun experience, the views up there are simply breathtaking.

    Thanks!
    Seeing these possibilities we have to wonder why we were planning only two days in Lucerne!
