Luggage storage at Lauterbrunnen station

Short summary – read this first

Gregg is arriving in Lauterbrunnen on November 28th and needs advice on storing his luggage while exploring nearby mountain communities. He wants to know more about luggage storage options at the station, as he plans to visit Grindelwald before checking into his accommodation later that day.

Key takeaways:
  • You can store your luggage at Lauterbrunnen station; it's not usually busy during low season, so there will be space.
  • Check the station’s open hours; it opens at 7 AM and closes at 6 PM, so plan accordingly.
  • Consider exploring the Lauterbrunnen Valley for convenience and beautiful scenery instead of going to Grindelwald.
  • If you're looking for accommodations, explore both Airbnb and hotel options available in Wengen or Mürren as alternatives.

Hello, we are planning to arrive in Lauterbrunnen Nov. 28th at approximately 12:00 noon but cannot check into our accommodations until 4:00 pm. We would like to leave our luggage at the Lauterbrunnen station and travel to one of the mountain communities (perhaps Grindelwald) during the day and return to Lauterbrunnen to pick up our luggage and check into our accommodations. I understand the lockers are limited in size and number at the Lauterbrunnen station. I’ve read a little about luggage storage at the station besides the lockers. Does anyone actually know the station and know how that option works? It seems like we would need to be back at the station by 7 pm to get our luggage perhaps. I just want to make sure we can leave our luggage somewhere so we are not wasting the day since we only have 2 days to explore that area before heading to Zermatt.

Additionally, we are looking to book an airbnb instead of hotel since we can’t seem to find many options in the area at that time. If we were staying at a hotel, our luggage wouldn’t be an issue as we could leave our luggage with the hotel. Should we consider a different city to stay in? We were hoping for a smaller community than Interlaken, but realize it isn’t too far from Lauterbrunnen. Thank you for any advice and knowledge you can share.

    Thank you, Gregg

    Hi Gregg –

<<” since we can’t seem to find many options in the area at that time.”>>

That’s the lowest part of low season. Upper trails and cableways are not available. Not yet ski season. No tourists, therefore, few services. Some are open.

Exploration will be possible, but limited.

I like to stay in Wengen.

For comments about the villages/towns, check this page:

since we can’t seem to find many options in the area at that time.

The station at Lauterbrunnen will have very few people storing luggage at that time. No problem. Just make sure to watch their open hours.

Opens at 7AM, closes at 6PM. Not at 7 PM.

You might want to do your afternoon exploring in the Lauterbrunnen Valley side of things, rather than Grindelwald, due to convenience.

Walk from Grütschalp to Mürren, or along the valley floor to Stechelberg.

We just returned from 2 wonderful weeks, including 5 nights in Wengen and 3 in Murren.

Why not stay 2 nights in Grindelwald if that’s already on your radar? Really cute town in a valley under the Eiger and other Alps. The First bahn will be shut down but Jungfraujoch is easy to get to from Grindelwald and it’s opened year round.

(Wengen is much smaller and will be pretty sleepy.)

    Enjoy!
