Can anyone recommend a good way to transfer suitcases from Geneva to Zermatt? I am part of a group that is planning to trek the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt in July. Some members of my party are ending their trek in Arolla Switzerland, while one member is beginning the trek in Arolla and ending in Zermatt. So, we would need both transfer and storage.

    Hi Lars,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

One option is to use the SBB luggage transfer service if you are travelling with the train to your destinations. Be sure to check out this link: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/luggage

Another option is to hire private transporters, like this one, who can shuttle your luggage as you trek the Haute Route.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

I’m sorry, but your second hyperlink yields the same Swiss Rail page as your first link. I had planned on taking a shuttle bus from the Geneva airport to Chamonix with only my backpack, although I could also take my suitcase to Chamonix if it would be easier to transfer my suitcase from Chamonix to Zermatt. I had hoped to find a way to transport my suitcase directly from Geneva to Zermatt, where I could retrieve it 14 days later. While I plan to use Swiss Rail to travel from Zermatt to Interlaken on August 3 and from Interlaken to Zurich on August 7, I am guessing that my subsequent use of Swiss Rail wouldn’t allow me to use their luggage transfer and storage (in Zermatt) services beforehand. Thus far, the only luggage transfer service I am finding is Swiss Rail.

    Hi Lars,

Sorry about the wrong link. It should’ve been this one: http://www.alpenwild.com/staticpage/haute-route-luggage-transfers/

SBB does provide door-to-door service so it might be possible to get the luggage transferred directly from Geneva to Zermatt. If you have a hotel booked in Zermatt, perhaps you can arrange the hotel to accept the delivery on your behalf. For more information you should refer to the SBB website. You can find the link at the bottom of the following page: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/luggage

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna
