May: Beckenried to Klewenalp visit

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Louise is flying into Zurich on May 1 and plans to take a train to Luzern. She wants to know about alternatives to a boat cruise to Beckenried due to the Klewenalp cable car being closed for maintenance, including transport options back to Luzern and the length of an easy walk at Bürgenstock.

Key takeaways:
  • If planning to visit Klewenalp, note that the cable car is closed until May 17, so consider alternative activities like a boat trip on Lake Lucerne.
  • Look into visiting Bürgenstock and walking the Felsenweg path, which is an easy walk that may take between 20 to 45 minutes.
  • Verify the Swiss Travel Pass coverage for any attractions you plan to visit to ensure you can use it effectively.

    Hello Moderators and others,

Here is a question that I have.

We will be flying into Zurich on May 1 (landing 10:30 am) and then taking the train to Luzern to our hotel. I was thinking about taking a boat cruise to Beckenried and then taking the cable car up to Klewenalp and walk around (instead of taking in the sights of Luzern on the first day).

If we don’t take the boat back to Luzern, as I am not sure how much time we will be spending up there, is there a train back to Luzern? Is it a combination of train and bus and do they run until at least 6pm? How much time do you think we will need in Klewenalp? we don’t plan to do any heavy hiking, just leisure walks and admiring the views. Also, is the cable car ride covered by STP?

    Sorry, more than one question.

    Regards,

    Louise

The Klewenalp cable car is closed for spring maintenance until 17 May so your question is moot. Sorry!

    Hello suitcase,

Yes, unfortunately the cable car from Beckenried to Klewenalp will not be operating when you were intending to visit 🙁

As an alternative, how about a boat trip at Lake Lucerne and a visit to Bürgenstock. If the weather is nice, you can walk the Felsenweg to Hammetschwantschwand Lift.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    To 1960man and Yolanda,

Oh, My! Good to know. I don’t recall reading anything about spring maintenance on their website. Too bad for me. Thank goodness for this forum!!

Thanks a bunch. I will look into the option that Yolanda has suggested.

    Regards, Louise

Ok, Yolanda, I checked the option that you suggested and I was wondering about the Felsenwen Path “walk” from the resort to the Lift. I have read from some posts that it ranged from 20 mins to 45 mins. How long is this “walk” and I assume it is a fairly easy walk and not a hike?

    Regards,

    Louise

    Hello Louise,

I understand. You are your best guide, as to what you think you are or are not capable of. It is considered an easy walk so I suspect it won’t be too strenuous. For those, fast, energetic walkers – they are probably the 20 minute walkers!?

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
