Do I need a Mt Titlis kids ticket if I have a Swiss Travel Pass?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Shalini is planning an 8-day trip to Switzerland in May with her two kids aged 8 and 14. She’s looking for advice on whether she needs to purchase a separate Children's Co-Travelcard or if the Swiss Travel Pass's benefits cover her children, especially for gondola rides in Titlis and the cost for a Fondue experience at SnowXPark Trubsee.

Key takeaways:
  • To get a Swiss Family Card for free, request it when purchasing the Swiss Travel Pass, allowing kids under 16 to travel free of charge with a parent holding the pass.
  • For the Fondue experience at SnowXPark Trubsee, you need to buy separate tickets for each person; sharing may not be allowed.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass covers various transportation options, making it more convenient and potentially cheaper for your travels across Switzerland.

    Hello ,
So we will be travelling in May (2 Adults , 2 Kids(8, 14 Age))
We will be taking 8 days Swiss Travel Pass (STP)
So I was checking titlis website it says ,

    • Children (6 – 15 years) with an SBB Children’s Co-Travelcard and accompanied by a parent or accompanying person

So do I need to buy this pass separately or on Tripadvisor folks said STP comes with Junior card.
Does that mean Gandola/Rotair free for Kids in Titlis with these cards if parents has STP ?

Another question : Is Igloo with Fondue experince worth it @ SnowXPark Trubsee  , do we have to buy 4 tickets to enter ? that would be way expensive CHF 140, cant we buy one and enter Igloo & share Fondue ?

When purchasing the Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/) you have the option to request for free a Swiss Family card (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/discount/) – take it.

This will allow your children up to 16 years to travel for free on all means of transportation (trains, cable car, mountain trains, etc…). Just have the family card on your phone or printed to show when required.

Thanks, so Jungfrau & Titlis cable car is covered right ?
I see Niederhorn cable car is not covered in STP. I have my Hotel in Beatenberg , thinking of taking this to catch the Cruise to Thun.

Yes, Jungfrau & Titlis cable car are free for children under 16 with a Family card (and an adult with the STP or Half fare card)
Not sure about Niederhorn cable car, but it does say that

    • Children under 16 years of age accompanied by at least one parent (holding a Swiss Travel System ticket) travel free of charge with the complimentary Swiss Family Card

So children should be free but you can always contact them directly to confirm.

We are starting from Geneva – Luzern(3D) – Interlaken (2 D)-Zurich(2 days, few meuseum & Rhine) – Buchs SG  (last point of exit to Austria)
We want all Train / cruise (Lake Thun & Lake Luzern (Fluelen-Vitznau , Weggis-Luzern section in return from Rigi)  / buses to be covered.

    Hi Shalini_s,

You need the Swiss Travel Pass, because you’ll be traveling all over Switzerland and the Berner Oberland Pass would only work for your 2 days in that area.

You’ll find all details on the below page, including the best websites to purchase from, and details on what’s covered. The kids travel for free wherever the Swiss Travel Pass offers free or discounted travel, including the Niederhorn:

Thanks, will go with Swiss Travel Pass.
Yes you are right , got this reply from Niederhorn too.
For the Beatenberg – Niederhorn gondola lift, you will receive half price for adults with the Swiss Travel Pass and family card, CHF 21.50 for return and the child travels free of charge.
Beatenbucht – Beatenberg you can travel completely free with the Swiss Travel Pass.

    Hi Shalini,

Thanks for sharing the details about the Swiss Travel Pass validity on Niederhorn.

For the Fondue Experience in an Igloo on Mt Titlis (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/titlis/), you need to book and pay for that separately. On the website, it indicates a price of CHF35 per person (from 10 years and above).

    Regards,
    Anna

Mailed titlis & got a reply , so nothing would be open in May 1st Week 🙁
nice to hear that you want to visit Mount Titlis. However, it’s the low season you are coming and therefore no activities will be open besides the glaciercave and cliff walk.

Kids travel for free, you only need to show your swiss passes at the ticket counter.

No, you are coming at the edge of winter to summer. So no snowXpark and not sure about the tubing. It depends on the weather and if the snow will stay for how long

    One General Question:
Will there ever be a discount of Swiss Travel Pass , I wanted to buy 2 pass for 8 Days, expensive like 838 CHF. Any discount will come or no ?
or any other portal to buy ?

    Hi Shalini,

I am also wondering the same 🙂 But currently there is no news about any promotion on the Swiss Travel Pass.

You can check other relevant travel promotions here: https://www.myswissalps.com/promotions/

    Hi again Shalini,

As an alternative to Titlis, you can take your children to Mt Pilatus. There are various activities fit for families from April onwards. For example, the rope park, tree tents, a toboggan run and an amazing adventure playground.

    Further details here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/pilatus/

Thanks Anna , Let me check Pilatus,
Based on your earlier suggestion , I booked 3 nights in Luzern 🙂
So I guess I can cover these.
Will we fiumnd as much snow as Titlis, Titlis being 3000 meters while Pilatus seems 2000.

regarding STP discount, what are historical /last year pattern, did discount came or price remain fixed  ?

Good to hear you’re booked! Please keep an eye on the promotions page that Anna shared. As soon as there’s a Swiss Travel Pass promotion, it will be on there. And on our Swiss Travel Pass page as well: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/#promo

We’ll also write about it in our newsletter if it happens: https://www.myswissalps.com/contact/newsletter/

However, I don’t expect a promo any time soon. There hasn’t been one last year either.

    Hi Shalini,

There wasn’t any Swiss Travel Pass promotion last year so I expect it would be the same this year.

You can find snow at the top of Titlis all year round but not on Pilatus.

    Hi Shalini,

You might want to consider the Half Fare card since it offers basically the same 50% on cable cars, mountain trains as the STP. Yes, you get 100% discount with the STP on train/bus rides, but not on most popular and more expensive attractions. (Grindewald First, Mt. Pilatus/Titlis, Jungfraujoch, Stechelberg – Schilthorn)

Just write down all your main places to visit and costs to get there (train, cable car…) get the total cost and start adding the STP card or Half Fare card.

The Half Fare card also offers the Family card and children will travel for free. You can even get 1 Half Fare card (for 1 adult) and both children will travel for free, same for the STP card, 1 is enough to get the family card.

Someone ported a excel sheet on TripAdvisor and it seems STP is cheaper

Plus it gives a ,lot of convienience as no hassle to buy ticket before every trip.

So what do you all say ? 1 STP + 1 HF or 2 STP

    Hello Shalini.

Get two STPs and a free family card for your two children.  And congratulations on seeing a huge advantage of getting STPs.  As you say, ‘it gives a ,lot of convienience as no hassle to buy ticket before every trip’. That ‘no hassle’ is a PRICELESS benefit which will not show up on any spreadsheet!

    Kind regards

Nailed it, if you are on vacation you dont want to wake booking tickets before every journey and I guess there will be dynamic pricing in swiss train ? sooner u book the cheaper , later it will 2x-3x
costly ? I see TGV Lyria coming from Paris, prices varies upto 3X

    Hello Shalini

I strongly agree, when you say ‘Nailed it, if you are on vacation you don’t want to wake booking tickets before every journey’.   But note that the cost of the STP is NOT subject to ‘Dynamic Pricing’.   Indeed I have just remembered that twice last year I paid 723 CHF for a 15-day First Class STP.  When I buy my pass for my trip planned on 1st to 12th April, I will pay …..   723 CHF.   (Note that I would expect most Swiss fares to go up on January 1st 2026.)

    Best wishes
    Roger
