Mürren not recognized by SBB timetable?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Ian_pooley is trying to figure out why the SBB website doesn't recognize Mürren as a station when planning his trip from Grutschalp to Mürren. He mentions that he can buy a ticket from Lauterbrunnen to Schilthorn via Mürren but wants advice on how to correctly input Mürren in the SBB system for trip planning in spring.

Key takeaways:
  • Always use the correct spelling with the diaresis (ü) when searching for Mürren on the SBB website to avoid confusion.
  • If using a non-German keyboard, you can type the character ü by using Alt + 0252 on your numeric keypad.
  • For smooth planning, check local timetable PDFs for accurate travel information.

    Hi Ian_pooley, welcome to MySwissAlps!

There shouldn’t be any problems if you fill out Mürren (note the diaresis on the “ü”) as your destination. There’s “Mürren (Schilthornbahn)”, which is the cable car station on the Stechelberg-Gimmelwald-Schilthorn route. And there’s “Mürren (BLM)”, the small railway station connecting Mürren to Grütschalp above Lauterbrunnen. You can find more details at https://www.myswissalps.com/murren/travel.

Does it work out for you this way?

I don’t know what type of tickets or passes you will be using but it is easy to get a ticket to Murren from Lauterbrunnen at the local station.

This PDF will give visual timetable:

Murren is not recognised in the timetable drop-down list. Could it be those two little dots over the u? in the From & to box on the SBB website. If I put Grutschalp in the’ from’ box it is recognised, but Murren in the ‘To’ box gives me Murrhardt. My keybord doesn’t do the u with two dots over. All I am trying to do is plan & cost some trips I intend to take in the spring, I don’t actually want to buy tickets.

    Hi Ian pooley,

That’s right. Instead of Murren, it should be Mürren (or Muerren if you use a non-German keyboard).

Hope the trip planning goes well.

    Regards,

    Anna

Sorted! I can in fact type a ü on a windows keyboard using the number key pad & Alt 0252. You learn something new every day! Thanks for your help.
