This is definitely true Andrew and I’m sure oheckyeah is aware of this, being an experienced hiker.

On this page you will find more helpful input about preparation for hiking in the mountains and how to stay up to date with short-term weather forecast:

    Thanks all.

Quite frankly, even if the higher altitude trails are technically passable, I’m not sure I want to be hiking through all the snow and mud, and with a 6-month-pregnant wife, I think that discussion will be short. we May stick to some of the lower altitude trails around Lauterbrunnen or Wengen/Murren as the maximum.

Well YES, then I definitely agree with you. Did not have your pregnant wife in mind.

Stay on lower altitudes then for sure. Nothing stops you enjoying and having fun there!

Take care and all the best for the growing family.

    Best,
    Steph

I did not see any areas of a potential avalanche last May 7th. Not even close on the trail that I was on.

Thank you Crossofiron. Please note that I was making a general point.

Paths are not closed without reason and it’s wise to comply with signs.

    Hi Andrew –

<<“Paths are not closed without reason “>>

I certainly agree. The Swiss who are in charge of safety on those trails know a lot more about the conditions and the hazards than I do, for sure. And, I’d guess that is the case for almost any hiker, not just me. Appearances may not tell the whole story.

If you have visited Wengen, you ‘ll note that there is an open area without buildings along the Wengiboden, south and southeast of the Talstation of the Luftseilbahn. Building is not permitted there.

If you stand there and look around, it may not be obvious to you why they don’t build on that clearly valuable space.

    Perhaps you can imagine why?

There is a clue in this link.

Yes I was aware if that tragedy.
