Do children travel for free anywhere with the Swiss Family Card?
GLM is planning a family trip to Switzerland in late June, staying for 4 nights in Luzerne, 6 nights in Lauterbrunnen, and a couple of nights in Zurich. They are considering the Swiss Half Fare Card and want to know if it allows their grandchildren to travel for free with the Swiss Family Card when accompanied by their parents.
- The parents can obtain a free Swiss Family Card for the children when they purchase the Swiss Half Fare Card.
- With the Swiss Family Card, children can travel for free on all routes included in the Swiss Half Fare Card validity, including mountain excursions like Jungfraujoch and Pilatus.

Our family is scheduled to visit Switzerland the last couple of week in June. We (my wife and I) will be travelling with our daughter and son-in-law along with their 2 daughters who are aged 11 and 14. We plan to stay 4 nights in Luzerne, 6 nights in Lauterbrunnen, then a couple of nights in Zurich.
After considering which passes to get we are leaning toward the Half Fare Card in conjunction with the Jungfrau pass for the adults. So 1st question : the purchase of the HFC for their parents will allow us to get the Swiss Family Card for the children??
Assuming that is true, does this allow them to travel free anywhere in Switzerland (as long as accompanied with their parents)? Including places like Pilates and Jungfraujoch? Or are there any exceptions where they would have to purchase a ticket?
Thank you – GLM
