Locker size and availability at the Randa train station near Zermatt

Short summary – read this first

Jenny is planning a trip to Zermatt and stopping in Randa to see the suspension bridge on August 8th. She has concerns about the availability of luggage lockers at Randa station for her four large suitcases and is considering options to manage her luggage effectively during her travels.

Key takeaways:
  • Lockers at Randa station are usually small and may not fit large luggage, so consider storing bags at Zermatt station instead, which has ample locker sizes available.
  • Storing luggage at Zurich Airport or Zurich HB is a reliable option, as both locations have plenty of locker space and left baggage services.
  • If using lockers, be prepared to reorganize your suitcase if it doesn’t fit easily, as some travelers have done so successfully.

    Hello,

We are traveling to Zermatt on Friday August 8th and wanted to stop in Randa to see the suspension bridge. I understand there are luggage lockers available at the Randa station but are wondering how available/full they usually are? And, if they would they fit large luggage (we would need to fit 4 large suitcases). I have looked into luggage transport but we’re not staying any place very long and then fly to Paris two days later, so I want to avoid a luggage mishap if something doesn’t go as planned.
    Thanks,

    Jenny

    Hi Jenny,

There are lockers near Randa station but I’m not sure about the sizes and whether they will be able to accommodate all 4 of your luggage. You can check the details here: http://www.randa.ch/en/lockers/ and maybe send an email to the commune.

In addition, you can find information about Zermatt here: https://www.myswissalps.com/town/zermatt/

Hello, Jenny.  I looked on my SBB app and found no information on lockers at the Randa station.  My experience in traveling all over Switzerland for many years is that these smaller stations rarely have more than 6-8 lockers and they are always backpack or very small suitcase sized.  Only larger, tourist heavy stations have multiple XL & XXL lockers.  While it would take some time your best bet would be to go on to Zermatt to store your luggage then backtrack to Randa.   Zermatt station is showing 28 XL lockers, 6 large, & 54 medium (35×55.5m).  Tip:  Sometimes my 21x14inch suitcase that I travel with is a bit too stuffed for a locker–I’ve been known to unpack a few things so the suitcase can fit and put those objects in separately 🙂

Anna, I thought of a new solution!

What if we check our bags at the Main Zurich Train Station (or the Zurich airport) then we could just take a small backpack to Zermatt and Stoos, and collect our big bags upon our return? Do you know much about the reliability and availability of storing luggage at SBB stations or the airport?

    Hi Jenny,

If it is more convenient for you, I would go with your idea to store your luggage at Zurich Airport or Zurich HB. Lockers at both stations are plenty and you also have the option to use the left baggage service.

    Anna
