    • The next part of our plans is to get to Munich from Zermatt. We plan to leave at about 09h00 from Zermatt and have one night to stayover enroute.
    • Wehave Swiss half fare passes.
    • or, is it possible to do this in one go combining the half fare passes with Swiss day saver passes. Which I believe are valid till 05h00 the following morning.
    • We travel by Glacier express to Zermatt. So change of scenery will be good.
    • Any recommendations will be appreciated.

You can fairly easily do Zermatt – München in one day.

As you will have been in the mountains and reached Zermatt via the Glacier Express route, there is really only one route that is a sensible alternative to backtracking over already covered ground. So the simplest and best way to München is to go the fast inter – city route. A Swiss Saver Day Pass would be valid all the way from Zermatt to St Margrethen. You would need a German ticket from St Margrethen to München.

Route with the fewest changes of train (just 2) is:

Zermatt – Visp (1 hours approx) – MGB narrow gauge train

Visp – Bern – Zurich (2 hours) – double deck inter city train – travel on the upper deck for good views of passing scenery

Zurich – München (3 hours 30 mins) – Eurocity tilting train

    eg

    Zermatt depart 07.37

    Munchen arr 15.04

Note the same pattern is repeated every 2 hours so there is also 09.37 – 17.04

The simple way to a perfect Swiss trip

    Hi Tron,

I agree with 1960man. Taking the fastest route will get you from Zermatt to Munich on the same day. To search for other connections on the same route, please use the SBB timetable. The Saver Day pass is cheaper if you book early online and is even more discounted if you have a Swiss Half Fare Card.

    Safe travel.

    Regards,

    Anna
