Thank you for your help Anna.

So do I book the golden pass segment (Lucerne to Interlaken) separately from the rest of the trip? only that segment of the trip seems to be on the golden pass route.

    Hi Sia,

If you have a railpass such as the Swiss Travel Pass, there is no need to get additional tickets to travel from Zurich to Wengen by train. There is also no need to make seat reservation. You simply choose your connection and get on board. You can use the SBB timetable to view train schedules and search for a suitable train connection.

If you don’t have a railpass, you can purchase a point-to-point ticket from Zurich to Wengen via Lucerne. You can find more information about this here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland. For long-distance journeys, it might be cheaper (but not always) to purchase a Saver Day Pass, as explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Thanks again!

Swiss Travel Pass certainly sounds easy. It’s just that we will be in the country for 3 days… other than Zurich to/from Wengen I expect to take a few trips on nearby cable cars. Would a pass be cost effective?

    Hi Sia,

Based on your plans, getting a 3-day Swiss Travel Pass might be sensible. The pass covers all your train travel and also other modes of public transport such as boats, trams and buses. In addition, you get discounted travel on mountain transportation (these include cable cars, gondolas, funiculars and mountain railways). Have a look at the details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass. Would this be something cost effective for you?

A detailed itinerary can help you choose the best railpass. Here’s a quide step-by-step guide to help you do the math: Choosing the best railpass.

    Regards,

    Anna
