Hi Anna19. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. You’ve got perfectly fine seat reservations from HappyRail. You certainly haven’t booked seat reservations plus tickets, as CHF 53 per person would be far too low an amount for that combination ;-). So you don’t have tickets yet and your Swiss Travel Pass will cover the journey. Swiss Travel Passes don’t sell out indeed. You can order them up to a couple of days before leaving: myswissalps.com/swisst ravelpass/price.

For the benefit of other traveller, booking from happy rail , do not allow seat selection and paying at higher rate. We ended up not sitting together for the 8 hours train ride and not allowed for refund even if I sent the request on same day before processing..
A little spoiler before the trip began. 🙁
    Just be aware.

    Hi Anna19,

I’m sorry to hear that! What’s your HappyRail order number? I probably can’t change the outcome, but I’d like to check this out with them.

Not so bad Anna. Seats 54 and 57 are two aisle seats facing each other.

I’ve never figured out the crazy numbering system. See attached.

Those seats seem fine to me as well. Did they tell you those seats were not together?

The numbering system is indeed one of the great mysteries left to be solved!

Just to clarify regarding the classes, there are normally 3 1st and 2 2nd class coaches in a GEX formation. They have now turned one 1st class over to Excellence class so each set will be 1 x excellence, 2 x 1st, 1 x bar, 2 x 2nd.

As I mentioned earlier, the best way to travel ‘on a budget’ is to take the ordinary trains on the same line, rather than the Glacier Express. What you pay extra for with the GEX is the commentary and saving a few train changes which are important to some people (although you get commentary on ordinary Albula trains from Chur south to St Moritz)
