Seat reservation on Swiss trains for child 5+
Aneek is planning a trip to Switzerland with his wife and their 5-year-old son, who travels free. He has a few questions about seat reservations on trains, particularly whether his son needs a separate Swiss Travel Pass and how to manage reservations for scenic trains like the Glacier Express.
- Your 5-year-old can travel for free with you on trains, but he isn't entitled to a seat unless you reserve one.
- For the Glacier Express and other scenic trains, you only need to pay a reservation fee for your son if he doesn't have a ticket.
- The Swiss Travel Pass is only valid in Switzerland, so you'll need to buy tickets for travel from Milan to Chiasso.

Hi all,
Am planning to have the Swiss Travel Pass for me and my wife. I understand that our 5+ years old son can travel for free. Have a few questions in this regard:
1. As my son travels free, will he not be entitled for a seat?
2. If the answer is a no, what is the alternative to get him a seat? Is it another Swiss Travel Pass which is priced the same as adults?
3. This one is for the glacier express and other trains, where we need the reservation only because of the pass. Can I reserve a seat for my son by paying the reservation fee only? If He is not having his own travel pass.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Thanks,
Aneek.
